If you have been on the internet for any length of time, you will have developed certain sites that you go to regularly. Some for information, some for humor, some for research, etc.
Within the Special Needs Community, there is so much information out there, its sometimes a bit overwhelming. Once every couple of months, I go on an internet search for some new sites. Sometimes I get lucky and find something worth while, but most often, not so much. Warning: If you do not have a sense of humor, do not, I repeat, do not visit these sites. And please, if you have a contrary opinion, keep it to yourself, these people have enough sh!t to deal with, without your non-solicited, two sense.
There are a few blogs that I consistently follow. These people are unique, funny, sincere, dedicated parents. I enjoy visiting their sites and reading about their ups and downs, because usually, we are having similar days. Below are 4 blogs that I follow. There are more, but this week I am focusing on these 4.
The Missing Piece is written by a father of a (now) teen aged autistic child. His writing, is witty, insightful, sarcastic, bold, amusing, and full of love. You will know you are at the right blog if the current post is titled Father Of The Felon. (Yes, our children have an obsession with all things electronic, ipads hold a special allure…..even for neuro typical kids) And know, the kid is not a felon, dad’s just adding some humor to a typical situation our kids get into. Read it.
Autisms Bitch Crystal is a mom to a son with autism and a daughter (whom she describes as “too big for her britches”). Her writing is blunt, to the point, no punches pulled and very, very, funny (at least to me she is).
Stark Raving Mad Mommy This site is by a mom of 4 kiddos. Three girls and one boy who all have some special needs issue or other. She herself, has been diagnosed with ADHD. Again, the writing is funny, irreverent, wildly accurate, full of love and definetely, worth your time. She has an extensive “about” page and explicit policies on commenting on her site. (I love no nonsense moms!! They absolutely rock!)
Confessions of An Asperger’s Mom Karen is a mom of 3 boys. Her and her husband have their hands full with these boys. She is honest, thoughtful, expierenced, knowledgable and fun to read. I really enjoy her posts’.
Give these folks a few minutes of your time, explore their sites, and add them to your reading list (if you like them).
Enjoy!
Lanie
